The Bank has been supporting “A National Day Concert” presented by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (“HK Phil”)* since 2009, to celebrate the establishment of the People’s Republic of China and to contribute in the field of art and culture. 2019 marked the 11th consecutive year the Bank sponsoring this tremendous music performance on 20th September 2019 (Friday)in the celebration of National Day, was successfully held, leaving a remarkable night to the audience.

The year of 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with extraordinary significance. Principal Guest Conductor Yu Long and HK Philcreated a unique musical feast for the audience with a list of classical music. Cellist Li-Wei Qinteamed up with the orchestra in Chen Qigang’s folk-song inspired cello concerto - Reflet d’un temps disparu for cello and orchestra.In addition, the Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 mesmerising celebration of a people overcoming hardship to unify their nation provided the concert’s magnificent climax.

*The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra is the first founded professional Western music orchestra in Hong Kong, established in 1895, under the name Sino-British Orchestra, renamed as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 1957, and became a professional orchestra in 1974. HK Phil is financially supported by the Government of the HKSAR, and is a charitable organization. 2019/20 Season marked HK Phil’s 46th Anniversary.
