What is SMS Service?

SMS stands for "Short Message Service". CMB Wing Lung Bank Customers can use their telecommunication equipment, including mobile phones, laptop computers, desktop computers, pocket PCs, personal digital assistants and etc. to send or receive short messages.

Types of Suspicious Transaction SMS Alert Services Available to Customers without Prior Registration:
ATM High Daily Cycle Accumulated Limit Transaction Amount SMS Alert
  • What is ATM High Daily Cycle Accumulated Transaction Amount SMS Alert?
    SMS will be sent to you instantly for notifying customer if the daily accumulated cash withdrawal or spending amount has reached the amount equivalent to HKD 9,000 on account level from their deposits accounts and the subsequent transactions.
  • Who is eligible for using SMS Services?
    All CMB Wing Lung Debit Cardholder and CMB Wing Lung Credit Cardholders registered with deposits accounts.
  • Can I choose to receive this SMS in advance?
    No. When you withdraw cash at ATM and have reached the daily cycle accumulated amount equivalent to HKD9,000, the Bank will send a SMS alert immediately to you.
  • How often is this SMS sent out?
    After the first SMS sent out to you, if you still use the ATM card to withdraw cash, the Bank will send SMS immediately to you until the daily transaction limits is exceeded.
  • Which channel can I choose to receive this notification?
    SMS only.
EPS High Daily Cycle Accumulated Limit Transaction Amount SMS Alert
  • What is EPS High Daily Cycle Accumulated Transaction Amount SMS Alert
    SMS will be sent to you instantly for notifying customer if the daily accumulated cash spending amount has reached the amount equivalent to HKD 49,000 on account level from their deposits accounts and the subsequent transactions.
  • Who is eligible for using SMS Services?
    All CMB Wing Lung Debit Cardholder and CMB Wing Lung Credit Cardholders with registered deposits accounts.
  • Can I choose to receive this SMS in advance?
    No. When you perform EPS and CUP payment and reached the daily cycle accumulated amount equivalent to HKD 49,000, the Bank will send SMS immediately to customer.
  • How often is this SMS sent out?
    After the first SMS sent out to you, if you completed payment successfully by using the EPS / CUP card, the Bank will send SMS immediately to you until the daily transaction limits is exceeded.
  • Which channel can I choose to receive this notification?
    SMS only.
Credit Card Initial Transaction Acknowledgement
  • What is Credit Card Initial Transaction Acknowledgement?
    When an initial transaction is made by after card activation, a SMS alert will be sent to the cardholder immediately.
  • Who is eligible for using SMS Services?
    Our credit cardholder.
  • Can I choose to receive this SMS in advance?
    No. When an initial transaction is made by after card activation, a SMS alert will be sent to the cardholder immediately..
  • Which channel can I choose to receive this notification?
    SMS only.
Credit Card High Risk Transaction Alert
  • What is Credit Card High Risk Transaction Alert?
    When customer performs a high risk transaction by using CMB Wing Lung Credit Card, SMS will be sent to the cardholder immediately.
  • Who is eligible for using SMS Services?
    Our credit cardholder.
  • Can I choose to receive this SMS in advance?
    No. Whenever customers performs a high risk activities on credit card account, we will send a SMS alert immediately to the cardholder.
  • Which channel can I choose to receive this notification?
    SMS only.

What is the benefit of using SMS Services?

  • Whenever and wherever let customers know any suspicious transactions in your account by a more effective and less manpower usage method.
  • Decrease the risk of loss to customers and the Bank during fraudulent usage.

Is there any charge for SMS Services?

There is no charge for receiving promotional or suspicious transaction alert messages for CMB Wing Lung Bank customers. You are advised to check with your mobile phone network service providers on the potential charges for receiving SMS.

Do I need to subscribe for SMS Services?

No, you do not required to sign-up for Suspicious Transaction SMS Alert Services.

Why sometimes I cannot receive SMS messages from CMB Wing Lung Bank?

  • Customers have not registered your mobile phone number
    You should complete the “Notice of Change of Address and/or Telephone No.” and submit to our head office or any one of our branches for registration.
  • Customers’ registered mobile phone number is incorrect
    You may have changed your mobile phone numbers or the phone numbers registered in the host system are not correct. Please call our Customer Service Hotline (852) 230 95555 to verify your the mobile phone number.
    To update mobile phone number, you should complete the “Notice of Change of Address and/or Telephone No.” and submit to our head office or any one of our branches for processing.
  • Customers’ mobile phone memory / SIM memory is insufficient / full
    You should free up some phone memory / SIM memory, restart your handsets and retry. You may consult your mobile phone service provider or refer to the user's manual of your handset for details.
  • Customers have switched off your mobile phone / not under network coverage
    You should ensure that your mobile phone is switched on and under network coverage. The system will only retry 2 more times to send SMS to unreachable mobile phone numbers in short period. You can only receive SMS via your registered mobile phone numbers. Even if you have diverted your calls to another mobile phone number, the SMS will not be redirected.

Can SMS messages be re-sent to me?

If you delete the SMS messages after retrieval, those messages cannot be re-sent again.

Can I receive SMS while I am outside of Hong Kong?

It is subject to your mobile service provider which you may not support receipt of international SMS. You should consult your mobile service provider and /or hardware supplier for details.

How to terminate SMS Service?

You may, at any time, choose not to receive our promotional SMS messages. Please let us know in writing in case of such a request to the Data Protection Officer. (Address: The Data Protection Officer, CMB Wing Lung Bank Ltd, 45 Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong).

Also, to secure customers’ interests, you are not allowed to terminate Suspicious Transaction SMS Services.
